Barn, lodge, stables, homestead, self contained cottages? Take your pick! Farm stay accommodation is as varied as the land itself.

Things to Do on Farm Stays

You don’t need to leave the farm to have a great holiday but you might want to get out and explore a little more of the country. THe great thing is, you’re not going to be too far from a bustling village or busy town to explore the area, pick up some supplies, or get involved in an activity or tour.

Discover more

Explore your country setting. Farm stays and retreats are usually set on acres of land available to you to walk through and enjoy.

Meet the animals. If your farm stay is on a working farm you may be able to interact, touch or even feed the animals. This is a great experience for families with children.

Go to the markets and buy some local produce. If your homestead, cottage, lodge or barn accommodation has a kitchen, bring back your goodies and cook up a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Head out from the farm and into the country for a scenic drive. The rural towns and villages of Nelligen, Mogo, Moruya, Bodalla and the Tilba district are not only picturesque but also a living snapshot of the real rural Australia.

Nelligen

The historic port village of Nelligen lies on a sweeping bend of the majestic Clyde River.

The picturesque riverside village is the first place to greet visitors arriving from the winding forest highway to Eurobodalla’s west. Just 10 minutes from Batemans Bay, the town has signalled the start of a beach and bush holiday for generations of Australians.

The waterfront area along Wharf Street is a great place to relax and take in the peaceful qualities of the riverside village. Here, a wide grassy bank makes a perfect place to picnic. Or pick up some lunch from the cafe nearby.

You can fish right from your picnic spot or from the jetty next to the boat ramp. Nelligen fishes well, with bream and flathead common, and huge mulloway lurking for the very lucky or very experienced.

Surrounded by forests, the Clyde River is remarkably pristine and undeveloped. Exploring it by boat or kayak reveals islands, sandy beaches and numerous small tributaries. It’s very easy to find a place that feels like the most remote wilderness, and a few hours among the river-forests can be transformative.

Mogo

Mogo is a small heritage village on the South Coast of New South Wales, located midway between Batemans Bay and Moruya on the Princes Highway.

Mogo retains its historic roots with sympathetic heritage style architecture lining the shopping precinct’s streets. The nostalgic feel of the village invites visitors to slow down and take time to enjoy the simple pleasures of browsing through fascinating shops and lingering over lunch or coffee.

Mogo’s olde worlde charm, set against a natural bushland backdrop, attracts talented artisans and craftspeople, as well as visitors, keen to wander the quaint streets and discover its hidden treasures.

Moruya

Uncover the heart of country Eurobodalla in Moruya. The thriving town is nestled on the banks of the beautiful Moruya River and built on a rich rural history and relaxed style of living.

Moruya is steeped in history and the heritage of the town is always on display. Much of the architecture remains unchanged since the late 19th and early 20th century maintaining a tangible connection to the town’s early establishment in the 1800’s.

In moruya you can connect with a vibrant and creative community with award winning markets, the annual River of Art festival, boutique shops and the creative displays at Basil Sellers (BAS) Exhibition Centre.

It’s hard to miss the colour and movement spilling from Riverside Park when two of the south coast’s best markets are in full swing. The Saturday Country Market and the SAGE Farmers Markets on a Tuesday afternoon are a magnet for lovers of local produce, arts and crafts.

Bodalla

Lush green countryside, heritage architecture and cheese making are the hallmarks of the 150-year-old dairy village of Bodalla.

The verdant green farmland and long timber barns surrounding this historic working village tell you you’re in prime dairy country. Australia’s first commercial cheese and first cheese exports were made here, and the tradition is very much alive.

Like many 19th century towns, the architecture here is dominated by the two competing services of the time; the church and the pub.

The magnificent All Saints Church dates to the 1880s and is built in the Victorian Academic Gothic style. The nearby Bodalla Pub has been the towns other meeting places for over 100 years.

Tilba

The villages of Central Tilba and Tilba Tilba are as beautiful as they are unique.

Classified by the National Trust and regarded as one of Australia’s best heritage sights, Central Tilba offers a living snapshot of 19th century Australia along with a strong connection to indigenous cultural history.

In a land where rolling hills meet pristine beaches, it’s no surprise why this unique piece of the country appealed to those who settled here in the late 1800s.

Still largely intact today thanks to their National Trust Heritage status, the pretty weatherboard buildings with their quaint cottage gardens line the streets of the historic townships of Central Tilba and Tilba Tilba. They present an authentic charm against the backdrop of ‘Mother’ Gulaga, a mountain sacred to the local Yuin people.
